Doxy 3r X Lovehoney
By Carnalqueen
What do you get when an incredible sex toy manufacturer puts their heads together with an incredible sex toy retailer? The Doxy 3r X Lovehoney, that’s what! A collaboration that’s surely a marriage made in sex toy heaven? The Doxy 3r has been on the market since 2020, but now it’s available in the infamous Lovehoney purple colour-way, and it looks absolutely beautiful!
This stunning rechargeable wand in glittery royal purple sure is a pleasure to look at, and let me tell you, it’s an even bigger pleasure to play with. Want to know more? Let’s get down to business!
I’m sure anyone who’s looked at this little beauty will have questions about it. The two pressing ones most likely being;
1) How does it compare to other rechargeable wand massagers?
2) Does it feel lacking in comparison to mains powered Doxy’s?
I have so many thoughts about this Doxy massager, and hopefully I can answer your questions as I talk you through what I think. This isn’t a straightforward review for me though if I’m honest, but I think that’s just because it’s a Doxy! For me, Doxy are the crème da la crème when it comes to wands, which means any new products they release are naturally going to draw comparison to their other, existing products. It hardly seems fair to compare a smaller rechargeable wand to a bigger mains powered beast, but we’re all going to do it, and I think that’s where it can get confusing. So, let’s start at the beginning and break it down as best as we can!
The Doxy 3r is a premium product, and if you didn’t already know that before, you certainly know it as soon as you open the box – this thing OOZES luxury. Once you’re past the Doxy 3r X Lovehoney branded sleeve and you’ve opened up the matte black inner box, you’re met with the most gorgeous brushed metal tube. Now, we all like a bit of stylish sex toy storage, but this really isn’t your standard offering, because honestly, a normal cloth or velvet bag just wouldn’t have cut it for anything Doxy. You can see and feel the quality straight away, and it’s not just included to look pretty, it’s also very practical too. Both ends of the tube screw off – the larger end reveals your shiny new wand inside, and the smaller end houses the USB charging cable. GENIUS! No more searching for the right cable when you’re desperate to charge your dying toy, because it’s right there with the wand, always. It’s fairly discreet; although I do think anyone who sees this in your bedroom is going to be curious as to what the heck it is, because it just looks so different. Only a debossed ‘D’ on the larger end gives you any hint as to what’s hiding inside. As a side note, the tube with the wand inside would double as a self-defence weapon if you ever needed it, because it feels HEFTY. I can see the headlines now “Burglar beaten over the head with sex toy by startled home owner …” ?
The wand itself weighs under 400g, and is 28cm long. It has a full metal body and smooth black silicone head, which can be unscrewed for washing and other things – more on that later. It’s controlled by three easy to press buttons, which will instantly be familiar if you’ve ever used a Doxy wand. An on/off button and a plus and minus – and using these in combination will allow you to utilize the travel lock function, use the wand in straightforward vibrate at varying levels, or go into the pulse mode to enjoy escalating pulse settings. We think there are 7 levels to use, although it might be 8? Ours seems to stay on level one for two presses on the way up through the speeds, which is weird. So I’m not sure if we just have a duplicate speed setting where level two should be or if there should only be 7? Either way, there’s plenty to enjoy, and I think there’ll be something there to satisfy most people. A four hour charge will give you around one hour of play at the highest setting which is 9,000rpm, but you’ll obviously get more use from a charge if you use lower settings down to the lowest of 3,000rpm.
So, is it any good at delivering on the orgasm front? In a word, yes! This for me is a toy that guarantees to give me an orgasm, and it does it relatively quickly, EVERY.DAMN.TIME. It’s undoubtedly very powerful, and it delivers deep and somewhat rumbly vibrations in a way that only a Doxy can. There’s just something different about how Doxy do wands, they’re totally in a league of their own. Comparing them to other wand manufacturers is, in my opinion, like comparing a Fiat and a Ferrari. My first car was a Fiat (Fix It Again Tomorrow) and although it did the job, it left me feeling disappointed regularly, and let’s face it, everyone would just prefer a sleek and sexy Ferrari! The quality is unrivalled. Doxy is definitely the Ferrari of the wand massager world.
Is it my favourite Doxy wand? No, sadly it isn’t. That title will forever (unless they prove me wrong in the future) lie with my beloved Original Doxy. For me personally, it’s all in the head. I much prefer the softer, almost squishy head, because I feel like it forces the vibrations DEEP into me. That’s why, as much as I did love the first Doxy Die Cast, it could never take my top spot. If you take your favourite vibrator and push it against you through something soft like a thin duvet, you’ll still feel the wonderful vibrations without them being significantly altered. If you put the head of that same vibrator into a Tupperware box and tried to feel the rumbles through that, they would feel incrediblydifferent. That’s a pretty rubbish analogy, but it’s the only way I can attempt to put across what I’m trying to say; it can be the same motor, same level of power, but how it’s delivered to you is absolutely crucial. The softer head of the Original pushes the vibrations into me so deeply that my whole core can feel them. A firm silicone head seems to focus them more at surface level, and that’s how I feel about the 3r. Although it’s very powerful and gives me incredible orgasms, I just know that it would be so much more awesome with an Original Doxy style head!
The truth is though, even though my heart remains with the original plastic bodied Doxy, I know this 3r will always get way more use than my original ever did (RIP). Why? Honestly, because it’s just SO easy. It’s cordless, it’s right next to the bed, I keep it charged and ready to go, and I don’t have to worry about power sockets or getting wrapped up in cords (that’s a whole other play session). Convenience counts for such a lot! I do wish this little powerhouse had been made waterproof, as many other cordless wands are. It’s not a deal breaker for me by any means, but I know a lot of people love taking toys into the bath or shower, and so this will be a huge factor, and may mean that this isn’t the wand for them.
The vibrations don’t feel like they’re substandard because it’s rechargeable either, which is obviously great news. They do feel different though – I just don’t feel like they have as much depth and ferocity to them as their powered counterparts. With my Original Doxy, I could put it on my clit and could feel the rumbles deep in my ass because my whole pelvic region was in on the action. The 3r gives my clit a party for one, and I’m cool with that. As with all Doxy’s there’s a noise level that has to be expected with them. They are not quiet toys, so if you need something that’s undetectable from outside of the room, this probably isn’t the one for you. Remember that Ferrari? It’s never going to sound like a Fiat 500, is it? With power comes a gruff and growl that you’ve got to learn to love.
I love that the 3r can be expanded to increase your pleasure too. Because it has the same head as Doxy Die Cast 3, the attachments that you can get for that model will also screw onto the 3r. To be clear, the Original Doxy and the Doxy Die Cast have a larger head, but the Die Cast 3 and the 3r have a smaller, more ball shaped head, and you can get accessories to fit those two models. A clitoral flutter attachment, a rabbit, a prostate massager and a sleeve are all available options to pimp your 3r to take it to new heights. We’re keen to try the sleeve, as CK found the wand on its own to be a bit too harsh when used alone on his cock – nothing that a bit of imagination and some soft padding couldn’t’ fix. In fact all of the Doxy attachments look like a lot of fun, and they’re definitely something to explore further at a later date.
Doxy, please make an attachment for the 3/3r that’s the same shape (although it would obviously be smaller) and the same squish and density as the Original. Pretty please, I’d love you forever (probably will anyway ?). I honestly think that would push it up another level and take this 3r to near perfection. As it is, it’s perfectly imperfect, and I still freaking love it!
The Doxy 3r was kindly sent to me by Lovehoney for free, for me to review here at Carnal Queen. This in no way alters my honest thoughts and opinions, which are mine and aren’t for changing!
