As Kinky As You Wanna Be Review
By Carnal Queen.
Fifty Shades of Grey has catapulted BDSM abruptly into the spotlight, love it or hate it, recently there’s been no avoiding it with all of the press exposure of the film, protests against it and what it stands for, and sex positive writers taking to the internet to voice their opinions on the subject, whether they be good or bad. There can be no denying, certain folk have a very misguided perception of BDSM, which in all probability, the film reinforced, and here is where this book comes in …
I wasn’t too sure what to expect from this book, but what I found really delighted me. It’s most definitely not a ‘how to’ manual, it won’t teach you the basics of BDSM practices or give you unrealistic ideas about the BDSM community. What it does do though, is show you how to embrace your kinky side, and enjoy your experiences in a safe, sane and smart way. It discusses the language used, allowing you to gain a better understanding of terms you may have heard, it covers any health and safety aspects you may need to consider and how to discuss everything ‘kink’ with the people around you who matter.
Interspersed between Shanna Germains advice, are interviews with BDSM experts such as Lee Harrington and Jay Wiseman, and short pieces of erotic fiction to stimulate your BDSM appetite. Because the topics and stories are all broken down in to manageable chunks, the book is incredibly easy to read and great for just picking up and dipping into whenever you have a few minutes spare. Shanna’s style of writing just flows, and you read it more like you’re having a chat with someone rather than reading their words, I like this because it makes her knowledge so accessible and I find it easier to absorb the information I’m given.
I’m by no means a beginner when it comes to BDSM, and I’m not what I’d consider a hardcore player either. Sitting comfortably somewhere in the middle, I still found that I really enjoyed reading this book and took something away from it. Maybe it’ll give you some scenario ideas? Maybe it will give you a better understanding of how to play safely? Or perhaps it will introduce you to a new pleasure which you hadn’t experienced before … It’s definitely worth a read to find out! Dubbed a ‘tourists guide to BDSM’ this book has a little bit of something for everyone …
