Play With Me Lube Review
By Carnal Queen.
I was sent the Play With Me Water based lubricant, made by Love to Love, to test and review by a relatively new sex toy retailer, your-pleasure.co.uk. They contacted me after we connected on Twitter, and after sorting out the details, I sat back and waited for my parcel to arrive. When it did, I was very excited to see that they pay attention to the little details which make shopping online fun and exciting – It was packaged in a lovely, sturdy white keepsake box (which will come in very handy for storing some of my playthings, thank you!). Inside, all of my goodies were beautifully wrapped in black tissue paper, and sealed with a company branded seal. Honestly, some of the bigger companies need to take note, it’s nice to get the little things right!
Anyway, on to the lube! Love to Love are a fairly well known company in the sex toy world, and their sex essentials range is quite comprehensive. I hadn’t tried any of their lubricants, so I was eager to try this and see what it was like. People might think lube is lube, but no, there are lots of factors which contribute to making a lubricant good, or hideously bad! This Play With Me lube is water based, which is very much essential if your sex play includes silicone sex toys. Silicone lube can start to eat away at silicone toys, causing them to disfigure, they look like they’re melting! So a good quality water based lube is an essential for you if you want to protect those toys, which you’ve undoubtedly spent lots of money on.
The packaging is clean and crisp, maybe bordering on feminine with its touches of pink text. It’s a generously sized 100ml bottle which comes with a simple pump cap. I find this dispenses really well, it doesn’t seem to clog, and it gives you a nice manageable amount with every pump – I hate it when a product dispenses you a crazy amount, because sometimes you may only want a bit! You can control it well with this pump cap.
I quite like the viscosity of this one, because it’s relatively thin. I don’t always like to use lube, because it can be thick and feel quite ‘unrealistic’, but this one provided a nice amount of slip without feeling like you were covered in slimey stuff! I did find that I needed to reapply it a couple of times, but this is not unusual with water based lube. This is not for anal use, it’s just not thick enough! Always use a specific lube intended for anal play. I suffer with recurring water infections, and although this lube contains glycerin, I haven’t found that it’s caused me any problems on that front – it really is a personal thing as to whether glycerin suits you or not. I found it went a little bit sticky during use, again, this isn’t uncommon with this type of lube, and it can easily be remedied by adding more lube, a bit of water or even saliva does the trick!
It has no smell to speak of, if anything just a very very faint scent like alcohol (a bit vodka-ish!) and it tastes of absolutely nothing, so because of this I wouldn’t apply before oral sex, because in my opinion it’s not nice to experience an unnatural texture in your mouth when it has no taste!
For me, the USP of this lubricant is the fact that it doesn’t feel overly lubey, if you’re not keen on slipping and sliding everywhere when you’re getting jiggy, this lube could be for you! If you like thick, long lasting lube, then maybe not so much …
