Directed Erotic Visualisation Review
By Carnal Queen.
As a reviewer of adult products, I think it’s inevitable that opportunities sometimes present themselves to test and review something that’s quite unique, something that maybe otherwise, you wouldn’t have experienced. I don’t think I’d be doing my job right if I dismissed these opportunities, because let’s face it, my readers aren’t all going to be carbon copies of me (thank god!), you have different likes and dislikes, different needs. So, within reason I’m usually willing to give anything a go. Whatever it is, I try to enter into it with an open mind and few expectations, and for this review, that was important.
Directed Erotic Visualisation (DEV) from esensualbooks wasn’t something I’d heard of before, I really didn’t know what it was or what to expect, but after a brief chat with Genevieve Ash, I knew it was something I wanted to know more about. So, what is it?
“… a combination of simple techniques, easy breathing for relaxation teamed with gentle suggestion to promote a sensual experience through visualisation. Together they work to help create a subjective reality where virtually anything is possible. Quality writing enhanced by expert narration generates an experience within that reality of sensuality and high erotic tension …”
Sounds good doesn’t it? I was very kindly sent three DEV files to experience, two for me, and one for the Carnal King to listen to. The files are extremely simple to download (they’re straightforward mp3 files), and they were on my iPod in a matter of moments, ready for us to listen to. Right, lets look at them individually …
I have a bit of thing about Vampires, and have had for a long time. As a self confessed ‘Trubie’ (True Blood, HBO), the moment I read about this file, my imagination ran wild. The idea behind this kind of DEV experience is to completely immerse yourself into the story, to become part of it. Genevieve had told me that I may find my second or third listen would give me the best experience, so I set about turning everything off, closing the curtains and getting myself comfortable on the bed ready for round one. I opted to be naked, just because I wanted to feel completely relaxed and uninhibited. On went the iPod, and I settled down with anticipation of what was to come …
I’m not going to go into detail about exactly what happens, because that’s for you to discover for yourself. In short though, you’re encouraged to relax, to focus on your breathing, and then you’re taken to your vampire. Through descriptive vocals, you’re able to visualise the scene, and bring the story to life. You experience oral sex of the bitey kind (Mmmmmm!) and then you’re fucked by your blood sucking lover. In truth, I initially wondered why I would enjoy it more after the initial listen, but after experiencing it, I totally understand. The first time was for me, a little disjointed. I enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong, but found it difficult to keep my thought process exactly where it needed to be. Imagine being told what you’re seeing and feeling, in a slow seductive manner. There were moments when I was completely in the zone, and I’d imagine that my Vampire would continue the path his tongue was taking onto my clitoris, only to then be told that he’d actually moved on to kissing my labia – that isn’t a direct example, but you get the idea. I found my brain was trying to go off in slightly different directions, then I’d be brought back to ‘reality’ and have to readjust my thinking. I found it challenging, because I struggle to get my brain to totally switch off, and so keeping it there in the moment, and trying not to run away with myself thinking random thoughts whilst waiting for the next direction was difficult. In subsequent listens, I knew exactly where he was going to touch, or kiss, or lick, and I was able to imagine it more fully and in greater detail, making the whole experience much more pleasurable for me. People have reported that a DEV experience like this can lead to orgasms without physical stimulation. Did it make me orgasm? No, but I certainly enjoyed myself. It aroused me hugely, and also relaxed me in a way that nothing else can. It’s quite a confusing feeling trying to work out if you want fucking to release the tension that you’ve built up, or whether you want to leave your mind in that deeply relaxed state and let your body drift off to sleep. I usually opt for the first one though!
This DEV experience is totally different to “BIte Me”, in the sense that it encourages you to touch yourself physically as you listen to the recording. The previous recording was narrated by a gentleman who talked you through your whole experience, he told you what the Vampire was doing to you but remained on the outside of the scene. This one is narrated by a woman, and during the experience she talks to you and instructs you, as if she were a Dom vocally guiding you through a masturbation session. I find this one incredibly hot! There’s something about being told what to do (and what not to do) in so much detail. She controls the speed at which your excitement builds, she stops you from going too fast, she tells you when to finally release and let yourself climax. Reaching orgasm with this one is incredibly easy, because as well as the visualisation, you’re enjoying physical stimulation. It’s not relaxing like ‘Bite Me’ obviously, it’s all about doing as you’re told and building up to that big orgasm! Really love this one!
This is the one for the boys. Narrated by Jezebel, she talks you through your experience in her dungeon. I’ve not listened to this one personally (although I might, because I’m nosey), so I’ll hand you over to the Carnal King for his take on the DEV …
“OK, before I even picked up the iPod I must say I was rather sceptical over the DEV experience and how an audio book type thing could have an arousing effect on me, that might apparently make me orgasm just by me listening to it. In the name of all things sexual and because CQ asked me for her review (very nicely) I approached this with an open mind and in truth, I am glad I did.
The story starts off by getting you into the correct mindset, and by controlling your breathing, if nothing else it does really help you block out the day and relax. This story is a little longer than some of the others that are available on the esensualbooks website, but it doesn’t take long before you have taken the walk into the dungeon, been chained to a wall, and are being touched and teased by Jezebel. I wont give too much of the game away, but the story includes whips, a mystery blonde and you being told what to do and when to do it – sounds like your usual Saturday night in right? No? Well this gives you the opportunity to relive the experience whenever you want or need it.
I found that the whole story was narrated well enough to keep my interest up (in more ways than one :p) but occasionally sounded a little robotic, not in an off putting way, just strange enough that I noticed it.
Overall I really enjoyed the DEV experience, the story is certainly arousing and works well on a visual basis. I would like to listen to some of the other stories and see how those compare”
I have to say, I’m quite surprised that CK enjoyed it so much, I didn’t really think it would be his thing. So there you go, we both got something from the DEV experience, and we will both be looking into getting some of the other files to try in the future. There’s plenty of choice on their website, so I don’t think we’ll get bored! If you fancy seeing what DEV can do for you, there’s also some free content on their website, so why not go and dip your toes in the water? I think how DEV affects you will depend on how well you can visualise things without any physical stimulation and how much you find you can immerse yourself – but it’s certainly worth a go, if just for the chance to clear your mind completely and enjoy the warm, relaxed feeling you’re likely to experience.
Huge thanks to Genevieve and esensualbooks for supplying me with the DEV files for free in exchange for an honest review – it’s been very enjoyable! If you want to experience DEV, you can find them here. No affiliate links have been used in this post.
