HUM Vibrator Review
By Carnal Queen.
I was enthusiastic and cautious in equal measure, when I first heard about the HUM vibrator. I absolutely love product innovation, and it’s clear immediately that the HUM has that in spades. I’m a control freak though, and I generally use all vibrators in a similar way – I allow a build up, by working through power levels and then whack them up to the highest speed and enjoy my climax. A climax that is almost guaranteed. The HUM dares to threaten to mess with that erotic equation. It wants to control ME. Could it possibly pull it off?
CK’s intrigue for this toy won through, and I decided I’d put my inner doubts aside and give it a go. A vibrator that claims artificial intelligence was always going to appeal to his inner geek. He loves tech, he loves gadgets, and I love him, so bring the HUM on …
First impressions were really good. They’re still a relatively new and small company, so you don’t get any over-the-top packaging or any fluff. I like that. My HUM arrived to me in a simple white box, with an instruction leaflet, storage bag, charging cable and charging plate. I went for the BLUE GLOW version, which is really lovely. I don’t think I have another blue vibrator, and I’m all for seeing more unusual colour options – I think the sex toy world is tiring of the pinks and the purples now!
One of the first things to strike me about the HUM, was the fact that it’s covered in silicone. Granted, I have heaps of silicone vibes, so that might seem like a bit of a strange thing to say. But the HUM is totally covered, right down and over the base. The QI induction style charger of the toy means there are no charging ports, or self-sealing holes. There’s no need. It’s completely covered, from head to toe, in tactile silicone. It reminds me of those all-in-one, coloured morph body suits you can get. I digress.
I used the word tactile there, and it really is. To touch, the silicone has a matte feel, but is silky smooth. It feels different to other silicones I have, and I can’t really put my finger on why. It’s not a solid block colour, it’s like a translucent silicone was added to the blue in production, giving it more depth and a generally nicer finish. HUM say the toy is then covered in a special coating – so maybe it’s that which makes it feel so different?
I like the button layout on the HUM vibrator. They’re all debossed, so you can feel each one raised from the surface of the vibe. Which means they’re easy to find and identify in the excitement of play. The plus and the minus are staggered, again making identifying them easy, and the extra room between them makes them easy to press individually, without catching the other one. The HUM button turns the toy on and off, and because that’s an actual word, and because it’s under the control buttons, there’s no mistaking that either. Simple and straightforward.
Charging is the easiest thing in the world to do. You just power the plate up with the included cable, and then just stand the HUM on it. Job done! I really like this feature, it’s neat. Imagine in the future, buying more QI induction charging toys, and just being able to utilise one plate. Just one place that charges all your toys. No more baskets full of cables, and long hunts to find the exact one your toy needs. That’s the stuff of a sex toy reviewers dreams, that is …
The HUM is a dual-motored toy, with a simple, skittlesque shape. It’s the insides of the vibrator that really make it stand out from the crowd though, because it’s home to an onboard computer. Yup, a computer! HUM was designed by physicists, and it’s clear that the technology behind this creation is its crowning glory. HUM will monitor the situation, using sensors and clever stuff, that frankly I don’t understand, and it will use that information to RESPOND to you. The toy knows which way it’s facing, which angle, the pressure … and it will behave in a way which it thinks will pleasure you.
MIND.BLOWN
You can use the plus and minus buttons to set the pace somewhat, and you can control whether the HUM creates simple patterns or more complex sequences by whether you have the buttons facing up or down. But that’s not really the point is it? If you’re going to invest in HUM, it’s going to be because you want to let the tech do its thing. So, forcing myself to relinquish control, I started my HUM journey, with an open mind, and legs to match.
HUM isn’t the strongest vibrator in the world, but it’s by no means the least powerful either. Honestly, I’d like a touch more oomph, but it does do a very successful job of escorting me to climax. I personally would prefer a touch more rumble too. It’s not a buzzy vibrator, but it does inch closer to the buzzy-boundary on the higher settings. I also find that if I use the buttons to turn the HUM right up, the intelligent side of things seems to get lost, it all feels very similar. I think this may partly be due to the higher frequency on the top setting.
It’s been a bit of a bizarre journey for myself and HUM. I’ve had to almost learn how to masturbate again in a way, because my tried and tested method doesn’t apply with HUM. I wasn’t really sure if I’d like it to be honest, but we’ve rubbed along nicely together and learned to be friends. Internally, I do feel like I’m missing something though. As lovely as the shape is, I’d prefer a girthier form or some sort of curve to allow me to be able to stimulate my G-Spot better. I actually really like the HUM for clitoral stimulation though, and I’ve surprised myself there.
I often tend to increase pressure on a toy as I near orgasm, and when I do that with the HUM (not on the high setting), the artificial intelligence responds to my squeezing and pushing, and it gives me a harder, and differing kind of vibration. It means my sessions last a bit longer, and I have to work a bit harder, but my orgasms are delicious when I get there. I’ve learned to really enjoy my HUM time, because each session ends up being different, and that’s something special in the sex toy world.
I was hoping I would be on to a winner with CK too. He really enjoy vibrations on the underside of his penis, and I was really looking forward to being able to influence those vibrations with a flick of my wrist or the squeeze of my hand. Sadly, the frequency of vibrations offered by the HUM just don’t work for his body. So whilst it works for me, it’s not enough to bring him to climax alone. I was saddened by that. Vibration preference is personal though, and I still really believe that this toy could be great for cock-loving, if the vibes worked for the users body.
It’s fun and it genuinely excites me. This is the first toy of this kind that I’ve come across (boom boom!), and I now wonder what the team at HUM could come up with next. It’s very well made, waterproof, super quiet and it offers you something that you can’t really find elsewhere. If this is where they’ve started, where are they going to end? I’m looking forward to finding out, and for sure, I’ll be following their journey with huge interest.I wondered if HUM would be more “Hmmmm” before I tried it, but it’s surpassed my expectations. And if the truth be told, I’ve really enjoyed learning a new way to play. Yes, it’s at the pricier end of the scale, but it’s unique. The colour options are lovely, and my BLUE GLOW is wicked. It’s been living on the side in the bedroom, next to my glow in the dark Adam from Godemiche, and they look pretty cool stood side-by-side in the dark. A dildo & a vibe glowing like beacons in the night, in case I wake up in desperate need of an orgasmic release. Fabulous!
I’m happy for HUM to control me. It’s proved to me that it’s capable. In fact, I think HUM may actually be more intelligent than some people I know!
The guys at HUM very kindly sent me the BLUE GLOW HUM for free, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review, which in no way alters my thought or opinions. If you’d like to try HUM for yourself, you can browse their range here. No affiliate links have been used in this post.
