ElectraStim Halo Review
By Carnal Queen.
I was thrilled when I spotted the Halo clitoral probe on ElectraStim’s website, and positively doing cartwheels when they offered to send me one for review. I’d never seen anything like this before, and I was surprised that it had somehow avoided my radar for so long. I was excited to see what this dainty little electrode had to offer me.
It’s hands down, the most unassuming sex toy I own. Look at it, it’s so cute! Nothing about it screams sex toy, and I’m confident that this could be left out and nobody would be any the wiser. Not that I will leave it out on show, all of my electro-gear gets put back in its place, so I know exactly where it is when I need a fix!
It arrives in the clean and crisp ElectraStim packaging that we know and love. No fluff, just function. It’s well protected inside, and comes with a little leaflet. I’d have liked to see a little storage bag with this, just because it’s so small, and could be easy to misplace. The box is much bigger than the electrode, so it’s unlikely to be kept for storage purposes.
You’ll need to make sure you have a unit to power the Halo, we’ve used it with the EM60-E Flick, which works fabulously. It connects with the unit cable, via the two ports on the flat bottom of the piece, and has two nitrile rings around the base, to give you grip and prevent you from zappy fingers.
So, the Halo …
It’s taken me a little longer to review the Halo than I intended, and that’s because the first time I tried it, I hated it. As my clit was pulling down its shutters and retreating inside itself, I was left genuinely concerned about how I was going to get myself through the testing process and to a point where I felt I could write a review.
It hurt. And as much as I enjoy controlled pain … OMG it fucking hurt.
Whilst I often end up using a review product in conjunction with something else in the end, to expand my experience with it, I generally opt for the first couple of uses to be that product on its lonesome. I shouldn’t have adopted that technique with the Halo, because on the second outing … I still bloody hated it.
Most other ElectraStim products see me somewhere around halfway on the power scale, and the Wave, which is another metal electrode, has me going all the way to the top and wondering what the fuss is about. The Halo, with its evil simplicity, can be felt from level one, and by level three I felt like my clit was being scratched off with a boiling hot blade.
Why, oh why, did I say I’d review this?
Getting to know you …
I persevered, cause I didn’t want my own halo slipping. I’d agreed to put it through its paces, so I would. My fussy little clit would just have to deal with it. And thank the heavens it did, because I’m happy to report that the Halo and I eventually became friends. Although it’s a friend I’ll always keep a close eye on, because it’s prone to being volatile.
Or at least, prone to appearing that way. The reality is, it’s all down to the day of the week, the way the wind’s blowing, or whatever else my body uses to gauge if it likes something or not. Oh and circumstance. A whole heap of circumstance.
I can’t use the Halo as a solo toy, it’s just too painful for me this way, even on the lowest settings. Unlike most other electrodes, the contact and stimulation point is tiny, and as it touches my clit it feels hot and sharp. Not really pleasant. But coupled with another sex toy, something for penetration, the Halo really shines brightly for me.
Maybe it’s the pleasure and pain thing. Maybe adding penetration gives me the magic mix of both, and that sends me off into blissville. I’m not sure, but I’ve grown to love it, when I get it right.
I can’t be in control of the penetration, so either CK does it, or I hook myself up to a sex machine. I’ve been using the Bendy 360 with this, but really anything that’s capable of dildo-fucking me would work. If I try to do it myself, it never goes well. I need to focus on the Halo.
I need to be covered in lube or conductive gel. If I’ve scrimped, I get the stabby-stabby feels. A thicker water-based lube works well, because it stays where it’s put, mostly, and provides a cushion between the metal and me.
The penetration needs to be sloooooow. Two reasons, I think. Firstly, because it drives me wild, and the mixture of the thrusting with the electro-stimulation on my clit causes my orgasm to build into something huge. When I finally go over the edge it’s always magnificent and well worth the wait. And secondly, because faster thrusting means I get jolted around, and the Halo invariably gets moved around too.
If I get these few things right, I really do enjoy my Halo experiences. It’s unlike any other electro-stimulation device I own. I’m normally quick to say that ElectraStim pieces can go from the gentlest tingle … but the Halo certainly has much more bite for me.
The stimulation it provides is pinpoint. You’re not covering a wide area, which can naturally diffuse how it feels. There’s no getting away from it, so I think it’s going to be a love-it or hate-it kind of toy. I’m glad I stuck with it and moved to the love camp, but I still can’t always tolerate it.
It’s a little bit evil; it hides its devilish ways behind its simple, innocent looking exterior. But it packs a punch. Even at the height of sheet-gripping, I need to come right NOW passion, I can’t go above level five. I prefer to use it on Flick settings that pulse, and have a steady rhythm.
I’ve tried it around the whole of my vulva, and on the lowest settings it feels good. It puts me on the edge, not knowing if it’s going to send a jolt to bite me any time soon. Across the thighs feels like scratching, and I quite like this too, but it can get messy. As I said, it needs a lot of conductive gel or lube to make it more comfortable for me. I’ve only tried it below waist, and wouldn’t recommend anyone tries it above the waist – as is normal for electro-stimulation.
If you love pain, this electrode could really rock your world – well, your clit at least. If you’re not into pain, then I think you’re best off giving this a miss, and experimenting with something a little less direct, like the Wave dildo.
ElectraStim provided me with the Halo clitoral probe for free, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This in no way alters my thoughts or opinions. You can purchase a Halo by clicking through to ElectraStim here. No affiliate links have been used in this post.
